Lucija Muehlenbachs, PhD

Lucija Muehlenbachs is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Calgary.  Muehlenbachs has 12 years of experience researching issues in the intersection of energy and the environment. Prior to joining the University of Calgary, she was a fellow at Resources for the Future, an independent environmental research institute in Washington D.C.  She has worked with oil and gas data from Alberta, including a study to examine the likelihood of inactive wells to be reactivated.  Outside of Alberta, much of her work on oil and gas has focused on the environmental impacts associated with shale gas development, for example, how property sales prices change after wells are drilled, the impacts of traffic accidents associated with truck traffic, a characterization of the chemical composition of shale gas wastewater, and the water quality impacts on rivers and streams.  She is now serving as a co-editor at the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management and Resource and Energy Economics, and on the editorial board of the Review of Environmental Economics and Policy, Land Economics, and the Canadian Journal of Economics.
