Stefania Bertazzon, PhD

Stefania Bertazzon is a professor of geography at the University of Calgary.

A health geographer, she thinks about health and disease spatially, that is, she is concerned with questions of where and why there: addressing these questions can lead to unexpected insights into how and why, to help improve health.

Her research integrates a quantitative approach in health and environmental geography, yielding valuable analyses and models of environmental and socioeconomic determinants of health, at various geographic scales, to assist environmental management and health policies.

She has worked in Canada and Europe, collaborating extensively on a variety of health research projects, contributing to address questions of location, accessibility, and the spatial determinants of health. Her research experience spans from models of urban air pollution, models of ocean pollution and maritime activities, to analyses of the association of health, socio-economic status, and the built environment.
